For example computer A can be connected to computer B by using LAN cable, but if want to connect Computer A with Computer B, C and D hence required a router (connection tool).
Understanding LAN Network is a medium of transmission together as well as a series of hardware and software to interfere the device into media and manage access to the media appropriately. Topologies used for LANs are rings, buses, trees and stars. Bus and tree topology is a passive piece of cable where devices are connected. Transmitting a frame by a station can be heard by another station. The LAN ring consists of a closed loop as well as a loop that allows data to circulate around the ring. The repeater serves as the connector point of the device. Transmission is generally in the form of a frame, while the star includes a central node where the station is connected.
LAN network is a privately owned network that is usually used in a building or campus measuring up to several kilo meters. LAN networks can be distinguished from other types of networks based on three characteristics: (1) size, (2) transmission technology and (3) Topology.
LAN network has a limited size, which means that the transmission time in the worst of circumstances is limited and can be known before. Knowing its limitations makes it possible to use certain types of designs. It also facilitates network management.
As well as phone subscriber lines used in rural areas, LAN networks often use a single cable transmission technology. Traditional LAN networks operate at speeds ranging from 10 to 100 Mbps with low delay (tens of microseconds) and have small error factors. Modern LAN networks can operate at higher speeds, up to hundreds of megabits per second.
So much discussion about understanding LAN or local area network, hopefully my writing on understanding of LAN or local area network can be useful.
