Virtual Private Network (VPN), its definition ... arkhhhhh too technical. Mending love examples of its use alone. With VPN we can access remote computer via internet, for example computer access in office from home. Without using VPN we can not access the computer in the office from home without including home computer in LAN office network. Fussed, besides the LAN network is very limited; can not be up to kilometers away.
This article only discuss setup VPN client in Windows XP. Understand guns do not have Vista or Windows 7. VPN server's brains are matters pak or bu admin only 🙂
Before starting setup, we need some information from pack / bu admin:
VPN server name or IP address
Login and password for the VPN, usually the same as the login / password used in the office
Ready? The steps are not too difficult:
Control Panel -> Network Connection, right-click Open
Click "Create a new connection" on the left panel
For Network Connection Type select "Connect to the network at my workplace". Click Next
Select "Virtual Private Network connection". Click Next
Type a company name. Click Next
Select "Do not dial the initial connection". Click Next
Type the hostname or IP address, for example 157.54.0.1
Cawang "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop". Click Finish
Ta .. da .... done. To connect to the VPN just click the newly created shortcut earlier and enter the login and password.
After what then?
After connecting there is no change in the desktop visually except in the lower right of the taskbar there is an additional remote connection icon. No visual changes does not mean there is nothing you know. You can access shared network in the office by using UNC (universal naming convention) - use Windows explorer and type \\ server \ directory. If you know less about UNC, can ask pak / bu admin in 🙂 office
Usually we all use VPN with Remote Desktop Connection. Thus we can see the office desktop as we are there. He .. he .. can work overtime from home.
